The Amsterdam Andalusian Orchestra, together with the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra and singer Youssef Jrifi, pays tribute to the musical genius Abdelhalim Hafez (1929-1977) from Egypt. Hafez was the James Dean of the Arab world. A superstar as a singer, actor and fashion icon. His influence on contemporary Arabic music is unknown because of his use of western instruments such as the electric guitar and electronic organs.
