After his studies, Walker quickly developed into a much sought-after opera and concert singer with a broad repertoire, with a particular fondness for the Baroque and Classical periods.
He sang in Monteverdi's L'incoronazione di Poppea with the Budapest Festival Orchestra conducted by Iván Fischer. He sang Mozart's Requiem and Bach's St John Passion with the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century, gave concerts in London and Cambridge with the Academy of Ancient Music, and performed at Covent Garden and the Opéra National de Paris, at the BBC Proms and during the Ruhrtriennale.
