French conductor Alexandre Bloch initially studied cello before switching to orchestral conducting.

He studied at the Conservatoire National Supérieur in Paris and completed it at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. In 2012 he won the Donatella Flick Conducting Competition that earned him a position as assistant conductor with the London Symphony Orchestra. In 2012 and 2013, he was a conducting fellow at the renowned Tanglewood Institute in America.
Since 2016, Alexandre Bloch has been chief conductor of the Orchestre National de Lille, where he led a widely acclaimed Mahler cycle in 2019 and 2020 He was also permanent guest conductor of the Düsseldorfer Symphoniker for several years. He also performed frequently as a guest conductor with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, the Dresdner Philharmonie and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, among others. As an opera conductor, he led productions with such companies as the Deutsche Oper am Rhein and the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich. He made recordings mainly with “his” orchestra of Lille, including a CD of works by the contemporary composer Escaich and Mahler's Seventh Symphony .
