The Netherlands Philharmonic, conducted by Eva Ollikainen, performs contrasting works by Mahler and Richard Strauss. Violin viola Isabelle Faust performs Dvořák's lyrically romantic Violin Concerto.

Dvořák's Violin Concerto with Isabelle Faust
Mahler's unfinished Symphony No. 10
‘She is a powerhouse’, wrote the American press about conductor Eva Ollikainen, referring to her energetic conducting style. She has now been the successful Chief Conductor of the Iceland Symphony Orchestra for five years. She is conducting the Netherlands Philharmonic in a programme of extremes. The only movement Mahler was able to complete of his final symphony is oppressively dramatic. The amorous escapades of
Don Juan
are full of humour and mischief in the symphonic poem of the same name by Richard Strauss.
Dvořák's Violin Concerto with Isabelle Faust
Isabelle Faust is an internationally renowned violinist who also enjoys great fame in the Netherlands. She was artist in residence with the Netherlands Philharmonic a couple of years ago. Dvořák's Violin Concerto is one of her favourite solo concertos. She made a widely acclaimed recording of it and not so long ago played it in the Amsterdam Concertgebouw under the direction of Philippe Herreweghe. A wonderfully romantic work full of lyrical moments, but also with unadulterated Czech fervour.
