Cappella Amsterdam and the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra combine Mozart's unfinished masterpiece with Haydn's ‘Trauer’ symphony and enchanting choral music by Caroline Shaw.

Mozarts Requiem with Roberto González-Monjas
Mozart's Requiem
Of all the musical requiems, Mozart's overwhelming requiem is perhaps the best known. He wrote it at the end of his life, possibly at the request of a mysterious client who wished to remain anonymous. Mozart died while he was still composing: his dramatic and moving masterpiece remained unfinished.
Roberto González-Monjas and Cappella Amsterdam
The Netherlands Chamber Orchestra and Cappella Amsterdam regularly work together. This time, under the direction of Roberto Gozalez Monjas and Heide Müller, they present a programme centred on Mozart's Requiem .
Haydn's inventive and compelling Symphony No. 44 was later nicknamed “Trauermusik” because Haydn himself is said to have said that he wanted to hear the slow movement from this symphony at his own funeral. A misleading title, as only the poignant Adagio is mournful and thoughtful. The remaining movements are mostly upbeat and exuberant.
Cappella Amsterdam opens the programme with a piece from Mozart's youth and two fairy-tale choral works by the successful contemporary composer, violinist and singer Caroline Shaw .
