Dymphna van Dooremaal studied bassoon with John Mostard and Joep Terwey and baroque bassoon at the Sweelinck Conservatory of Amsterdam.

She also took private lessons with Brian Pollard. As a freelancer she played for many years with, among others, the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, the Radio Orchestras, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Asko|Schönberg Ensemble and the Combattimento Consort Amsterdam. She also plays on authentic instruments with The Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra with Ton Koopman, Collegium Vocale with Philipe Herreweghe and the Nederlandse Bachvereniging, among others. Since 2005, she has been a member of the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra.
