Finnish conductor Hannu Lintu studied at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki under renowned teachers such as Jorma Panula and Eri Klas, graduating with honours.

In 1994, he won the Nordic Conducting Competition in Bergen, Norway. He was successively chief conductor of the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra, the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra and the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra.
He is currently the permanent conductor of the Finnish National Opera and Ballet, the Orquestra Gulbenkian in Portugal and, as of this season, the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. He is also the artistic director of the International Sibelius Festival. As a guest conductor, Hannu Lintu has conducted the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic Orchestra and the Berliner Philharmoniker, among others. The conductor has made numerous album recordings, including works by Sibelius, Lindberg, Enescu and a special edition of Lutosławski's complete symphonies.
