Herman Draaisma

Clarinet and bass clarinet

Herman Draaisma studied clarinet at the Music Pedagogical Academy in Leeuwarden with Gerard van der Weerd.

He continued his studies with Pierre Woudenberg at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, where he studied orchestral conducting with Lucas Vis after completing his clarinet studies. He also completed his bass clarinet studies with Tom Sieuwerts.
After having substituted for a number of years with the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, the Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Residentie Orkest and the Orkest van het Oosten, he joined the Netherlands Philharmonic and the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra on a permanent basis in 1992 as clarinetist/bass clarinetist. Draaisma is also active as a conductor with various orchestras, including the string orchestra Zoroaster and the student string orchestra 'Arcato' of the violin practice Petra Westra in Zutphen. As of 2004 he is conductor of Brassband 'De Eendraght' in Nieuwegein.
