Jaap de Vries began his bassoon studies at Rotterdam Conservatory with Henk de Wit.

Bassoon and double bassoon
He continued his studies at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague with Johan Steinmann (solo bassoonist of the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra). During his studies, he took master classes with Milan Turkovitsch and Brian Pollard, among others. He is currently a regular bassoonist and double bassoonist with the Netherlands Philharmonic. His great passion besides music is making documentaries about everyday interpersonal relationships.
