He won several competitions including the National Slovenian Vocal Competition in 2016 and a year later the Internationaler Gesangswettbewerb Ferruccio Tagliavini in Austria. From 2019 to 2021, he was a member of the Opera Studio of the Staatsoper Berlin where he collaborated on the world premiere of Péter Eötvös' opera Sleepless, among others. In recent times, Jaka Mihelač has performed with such diverse companies as the Opera National de Montpellier, the Slovenian National Opera and the Berliner Symphoniker. In 2021, he soloed in Ljubljana in Bach's Christmas Oratorio with the Orchestra Matutina conducted by Matej Šarc.
