Jan Bastiaan Neven received his first cello lessons from Jan Hollinger when he was ten years old.

He continued his studies at the Robert Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf with Johannes Goritzki and later with a scholarship from the Prince Bernard Cultural Fund at the New England Conservatory in Boston with Colin Carr and Laurence Lesser. He participated in master classes with Gary Hoffman, Frans Helmerson, Anner Bijlsma and Philippe Müller. Already at a young age, Jan Bastiaan Neven performed as a soloist with orchestras in Europe and the United States. As a chamber musician he played at the festivals of Norfolk, Verbier, Freyburg (USA), Schleswig-Holstein, Trecastagni (Sicily), S'Agaro (Spain) and “Le Festival des Heures Romantiques” in Monthodon. As a member of the Huntington Piano Trio, he performed at Carnegie Hall and many other venues in the United States. Jan Bastiaan Neven is deputy leader cello of the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra.
