Jeroen Soors

Principal oboe

Jeroen Soors had his first oboe lessons at the age of nine.

He was immediately fascinated by the way he could feel the sound of the oboe resonating throughout his body. When, at the age of 17, he heard the phenomenal oboist Leleux play, the choice was made for him. A few months later, he began his studies with Luk Nielandt at the conservatories of Tilburg and Antwerp where he obtained his Masters. He specialized with Professor Thomas Indermühle in Karlsruhe and later with Jacques Tys and David Walter in Paris thanks to a scholarship from Rotary.

During his studies, Jeroen was a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra and the Gustav Mahler Jugend Orchester, with which he toured Europe, South America and Asia. He was solo oboist in Het Gelders Orkest, the Radio Kamer Filharmonie and the Residentie Orkest.

As of 2016, Jeroen is principal oboe with the Netherlands Philharmonic, with The Concertgebouw being his favorite venue. 'Every time again, this hall gives me goose bumps and I can make music from my heart. That is pure luxury,' says Jeroen. Since 2017, Jeroen has also been teaching oboe at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague.
