Laurens Symfonisch

Choir

Laurens Symfonisch is the symphonic choir of Laurens Vocaal, led by artistic director and conductor Wiecher Mandemaker.

Laurens Symfonisch made its debut in November 2013 with the young piano brothers Lucas and Arthur Jussen in Johannes Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem in the Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ, Amsterdam. The choir performed Howells’ Hymnus Paradisi with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and conductor Martyn Brabbins. In the same concert, it performed the Agnus Dei by Barber with conductor Wiecher Mandemaker. One of the highlights was the premiere of four choruses from The Death of Klinghoffer by John Adams , arranged for chorus and instrumental ensemble by Bob Zimmerman. Also, Laurens Symfonisch performed Britten’s War Requiem with the Gelders Orkest, as part of the events to commemorate Operation Market Garden in WW II. Other notable performances are Ralph Vaughan Williams’ A Sea Symphony in de Doelen with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, the world première of Tan Dun’s Requiem for Nature with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, and Schönberg’s Gurre-Lieder conducted by Ricardo Chailly.
