Principal timpani

Marc Aixa Siurana is holds the position of Principal timpani in the Netherlands Philharmonic and the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra.

He is also a principal study teacher at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya in Barcelona.

Marc Aixa Siurana was born in Castelló de la Plana, but is originally from Torreblanca, a very small village in Spain by the Mediterranean Sea. It was in that town that he set his first musical footsteps. After studying at the conservatories of Castelló and in the Basque Country, he moved to the Netherlands where he continued his musical education. In Amsterdam he obtained his bachelor and master degrees specializing in orchestral percussion and timpani.

In the past, he was a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO) and the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester (GMJO). He was also an academist of the Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam, where he has been a sought-after guest player since 2014. Here he had the opportunity to work with renowned conductors, including Mariss Jansons, Daniele Gatti, Andris Nelsons, Semyon Bychkov, Herbert Blomstedt and Sir John Eliot Gardiner. He also plays regularly with the Camerata RCO and the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra.
