Mascha van Sloten grew up in a musical family.

Her father is a pianist, her mother is a flutist and her sister is a singer. She began playing the violin at the age of seven. From 1987 to 1994, Mascha studied in the young talent class at the Groningen Conservatory, and then at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. In 1999 she graduated there with Davina van Wely after which she studied with Milan Vitek in Copenhagen.
Mascha has performed frequently as a soloist, including on tours to Austria, Spain, England and France. For five years she was concertmaster of the Haydn Youth String Orchestra conducted by Ben de Ligt. In 1997 and 1998, Mascha played in the Jeunesses Musicales World Orchestra. With this orchestra, consisting of 40 nationalities, she has toured to Switzerland, Germany and Israel, conducted by prominent conductors such as Kurt Masur, Yuri Temirkanov, Sir Neville Marriner, Yakov Kreizberg and Jeffrey Tate.
Since 2008, she has been a member of the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra. She plays a 'Bernardus Stoss' (Vienna, 1837), made available to her by the
National Musical Instruments Fund
