Harp
'As a harpist, you have a sensual relationship with your instrument. You put it against your shoulder and you embrace it with your arms. Then when you play, you feel all the vibrations in your own body. She formed that special bond with her instrument when she began playing at the age of eight. After studying at the Paris Conservatory, she won several prestigious competitions including the Louise Charpentier Competition in Paris. She played with various orchestras such as the Orchestre National de France and the Berliner Philharmoniker, as well as the renowned Ensemble InterContemporain conducted by Pierre Boulez. She has performed worldwide in concerts and recitals, as a soloist, but also in chamber music contexts with the Ensemble Calliopée and the Trio Polycordes, among others. She now has several CDs to her name, including a recording of works from the time of Louis XVI on an authentic Erard harp. Sandrine Chatron has been teaching at the Amsterdam Conservatory of Music since 2012. Since 2018, she has been teaching at the Haute Ecole de Musique in Geneva.
Podcast with Sandrine Chatron
Dutch people often find her French accent charming, but Sandrine thinks otherwise. She talks with podcast creator Botte Jellema about the versatility of the harp, the competitive French music world and about a piece of music where she had to play with baking paper between her strings. She also shares why she traded Paris for Amsterdam and demonstrates the beautiful sounds of her instrument live.
