Like no other, Sir Mark Elder has made a name for himself as one of the greatest British conductors of our time.

From 1979 to 1993 he was the musical director of the English National Opera. He also conducted performances in countless opera houses around the world, including the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Bayreuth Festival and the Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam. From 2000, Mark Elder led the Hallé Orchestra in Manchester with great enthusiasm. In 2023, he will retire as chief conductor of this orchestra, which has become one of the best British orchestras thanks to him. In addition, he was a regular guest conductor for many years with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the London Mozart Players and the Radio Filharmonisch Orkest, among others. He is also a familiar face at the London Proms, where he conducted a successful performance of Wagner's Parsifal , among others.
Elder has made a large number of album recordings with the Hallé Orchestra. As director of the Opera Rara label, he has made several award-winning albums of unknown and forgotten operas. For his achievements as a conductor, Mark Elder was knighted in 2008 and has been entitled to use the title 'Sir' ever since.


In the 2014/2015 season, Elder conducted the Netherlands Philharmonic in Berlioz' Symphonie Fantastique.
