Suzanne Dijkstra

Viola

Viola player Suzanne Dijkstra grew up listening to the music of her grandfather, an opera singer, and her father who played piano.

When she heard violin on the radio at age four, we knew she wanted nothing more than to make music. She studied violin with Jeannelotte Hertzberger, Tjamke Roelofs and Istvan Párkanyi. After her violin studies, she chose viola and studied with Marjolein Dispa. In 2002 she graduated and started as a viola player with the Netherlands Philharmonic. Besides her work with the NedPhO, Suzanne has a great love for chamber music, which she plays with the Dingstee Quartet, among others.
Suzanne plays a viola by the 18th century violin maker Domenico Scrosati, made available to her by the National Musical Instruments Fund . The viola has since been nicknamed “Bugatti” because it hums, buzzes and sings like an old Italian racing car.
