Truls Mørk

Cello

With renowned teachers such as Frans Helmerson and Natalja Sjachovskaja and a place in the final of the prestigious Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in 1982, Norwegian cellist Truls Mørk had a wonderful career ahead of him. He has fully realised that potential.

In recent years, he has performed as a soloist with the Berliner Philharmoniker, the New York Philharmonic Orchestra and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, among others. He has recorded numerous cello classics, including the solo concertos by Haydn, Dvořák, Elgar and Britten. Many of these recordings have won awards. His recording of Shostakovich's cello concertos with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra was nominated for a Grammy Award. But Truls Mørk is also a passionate advocate of modern repertoire. He has performed no fewer than thirty world premieres by composers such as Rautavaara, Haas and Penderecki. It is no surprise that newspaper Het Parool recently described him as “perhaps the greatest cellist of our time”.
