Wouter Brouwer started playing horn at the age of eight.

He received lessons from Iman Soeteman. In 1978 he decided to continue his studies at the Rotterdam Conservatory with solo hornist Pieter Gouderjaan. Even during his studies, in 1981, Brouwer began his career as a hornist with the Amsterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. During this time he took regular courses and master classes with Peter Dam and Ab Koster, among others. In 1988 he became solo hornist with the Radio Symphony Orchestra. Since 1992, Wouter Brouwer has been a solo hornist with the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra and the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra.
