In 2015, a long-held wish of the Netherlands Philharmonic & Netherlands Chamber Orchestra came true when the position of assistant conductor was created. The position will be filled jointly with De Nationale Opera for the first time beginning in the 2020-2021 season. The (junior) assistant conductor is present at all rehearsals and concerts conducted by the principal conductor. The (junior) assistant conductor is also assigned one or more smaller projects. The position is for one year with the possibility of renewal for another year. Nil Venditti assisted Marc Albrecht in his last year as principal conductor with the Netherlands Philharmonic. Giuseppe Mengoli assisted Lorenzo Viotti during his first two seasons as chief conductor, followed by Alejandro Cantalapiedra. Starting in the 2024–2025 season, Korean Kyungmin Park will be assistant conductor of the Netherlands Philharmonic and De Nationale Opera.

Next season, Kyungmin Park will collaborate on various projects, including those with Lorenzo Viotti, Sir Mark Elder and during the Gala Concert. He will also be involved with the Dutch National Opera as assistant conductor for the productions Die Passagierin and Maid of Orleans .

Kyungmin comes from Jecheon (South Korea) and studied orchestral conducting at the Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler” in Berlin. He was a finalist in renowned international conducting competitions, such as those in Besançon and Slobozia, and took masterclasses with Alan Gilbert and Sir Donald Runnicles, among others. He has previously worked with Christoph Eschenbach and conducted orchestras such as the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, the Romanian Chamber Orchestra and the Orchestre Victor Hugo. Kyungmin is looking forward to the new season and says: “Dear musicians and staff, I am deeply thankful to be part of this wonderful society. Let’s have a sincere relationship for our future.”
