Martin Rajna

Conductor

Martin Rajna is one of the most outstanding young conductors to emerge from Hungary in recent years.

Since 2023, he has served as principal conductor of the Hungarian State Opera; in early 2025 he was appointed music director of the Luxembourg Philharmonic, and from 2026 he will be co-artistic director of the Budapest Wagner Days alongside Ádám Fischer. From 2021 to 2025, he was principal conductor of the Győr Philharmonic Orchestra. Despite his young age, Rajna is a frequent guest with leading Hungarian orchestras and appears regularly across Europe.

Highlights of the 2025/26 season include Lohengrin, Turandot, La bohème, and Aida at the Hungarian State Opera; his debut with the Luxembourg Philharmonic at Bozar in Brussels; and performances of Bartók’s Bluebeard’s Castle and Poulenc’s La voix humaine in Florence. He has previously conducted ensembles such as the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Sinfonia Varsovia, and orchestras of La Fenice and Düsseldorf. His awards include the Junior Prima Award, the Lucerne Festival Academy Conducting Fellowship, and the György Cziffra Festival Talent Prize.
