The National Elderly Fund, together with the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra, is organizing a Christmas concert for over 1,800 elderly people at The Concertgebouw Amsterdam on Wednesday, December 18. The concert will feature elderly people for whom the dark days before Christmas often feel extra lonely. With the concert, both organizations want to bring the elderly, caregivers and volunteers together and let them enjoy beautiful music. The festive afternoon will be presented by opera singer and comedienne Francis van Broekhuizen.
Led by conductor and violinist Gordan Nikolić and together with the National Mixed Youth Choir, the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra will perform a beautiful program of music by Britten, Poulenc, Berlioz, Fauré and others. The National Mixed Youth Choir consists of 40 singers between the ages of 16 and 30. The choir was founded in 2011 to provide a place for young singers who want to gain ensemble experience in a chamber choir. As of September 2023, the artistic direction is in the hands of László Norbert Nemes and Irene Verburg.
