Lorenzo Viotti and the Netherlands Philharmonic on tour in the Netherlands and on the opening night of the Mahler Festival
Gepubliceerd op 15 April 2025
Dear Mahler! is a theatrical journey like Mahler's work itself: compelling, moving, funny, tragic, with jubilant joy and deep sorrow. In Dear Mahler! , directed by Gijs Scholten van Aschat, the most beautiful and best pieces from Mahler's oeuvre are performed, and with recitations by actors, we travel through Mahler's impressive oeuvre on the basis of memories, reflections, and critical notes.
Mahler Festival 2025
The Mahler Festival will take place from May 8 to 18 as part of Amsterdam 750 and can be attended free of charge during the Mahler Nights on the Museumplein. During the festival, 2,000 visitors can enjoy the concerts in the Concertgebouw every evening free of charge via a 10-meter LED screen with an immersive audio system. Food trucks will be on site to provide refreshments around the concerts.
Dear Mahler! on TV and radio
AVROTROS is a media partner of the Mahler Festival. All evening concerts will be broadcast live on NPO Klassiek and NPO 2 extra. The opening concert on May 8 with the Netherlands Philharmonic conducted by chief conductor Lorenzo Viotti will be shown on NPO 2 and introduced by presenter Maria Fiselier.
Lorenzo Viotti guest conductor with the Netherlands Philharmonic
The Netherlands Philharmonic does not yet have a new chief conductor for 2025-2026, but Viotti will return four times. With Rachmaninoff's Symphonic Dances , Richard Strauss's Ein Heldenleben , Mahler's Second Symphony and Elysium by contemporary Canadian composer Samy Moussa. The interim period without a permanent chief conductor gives the orchestra the opportunity to strengthen its ties with guest conductors such as Dima Slobodeniouk and Sir Mark Elder.
