Over 1,800 seniors at Christmas concert against loneliness

Hein (88): 'This was my wife's music, now I'm all over it!'

The National Fund for the Elderly organized the Christmas Concert for over 1,800 elderly people in The Concertgebouw Amsterdam on Wednesday, December 18, together with the Dutch Chamber Orchestra. The beautiful music made those present feel connected with each other and society during these dark days before Christmas. A special afternoon that made an impression, also on Hein van Schaik (88). “This was my wife's taste in music, so I listened very attentively, and now I'm completely converted too!

With the concert, the Elderly Fund and the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra brought the elderly, caregivers and volunteers together to enjoy beautiful music. The festive afternoon was presented by opera singer and comedienne Francis van Broekhuizen, who herself experienced the concert as one big party. 'So great to do this and to experience a concert and chat with people yourself for a change! Many are here for the first time, and the choir is fantastic.'

Warm applause

Kirsten Andres, director of the National Fund for the Elderly, also felt the effect of the concert: 'Whether it's 'supposed to' or not, the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra received very warm applause several times from all present. Great to connect the elderly together through this wonderful music!'

Conducted by Gordan Nikolić, who this year celebrates his 20th anniversary as musical director with the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra, the orchestra performed a beautiful program of music by Francis Poulenc, among others, with the cooperation of the National Mixed Youth Choir.
