The Netherlands Chamber Orchestra gives young composers and singers a stage
With The Song Project, the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra has been giving young composers and singers a stage every season since 2023, with existing and brand new music. This year, five composers from the Amsterdam Conservatory have been paired with five singers from the Dutch National Opera Studio.
The result of this collaboration with the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra can be heard on Sunday March 9 in the Meervaart, Saturday March 15 during the Opera Forward Festival at the Dutch National Opera & Ballet and Sunday March 16 at the NedPhO dome, the home base of the Netherlands Philharmonic & Netherlands Chamber Orchestra in Amsterdam-East. The theme is an English song repertoire with music by Holst, Bridge, Delius, Smyth and White.
The Song Project is part of the Composers Lab of the Netherlands Philharmonic & Netherlands Chamber Orchestra. The Composers Lab gives young composers the opportunity to write for the professional musicians of both orchestras. In January, for example, a piece by Noura Hodhodi premiered during a concert at the NedPhO dome, and Ramin Amin Tafreshi, a former participant in The Song Project, wrote a piece for the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra this season that was performed in February in the Concertgebouw.
