The Netherlands Philharmonic & Netherlands Chamber Orchestra throw open the doors of their home base in Amsterdam-Oost

On July 4, 5, and 6, we will ring in the summer with music during Summer at the Dome! The Netherlands Philharmonic & Netherlands Chamber Orchestra will throw open the doors of the NedPhO Dome, their home base in the Indische Buurt neighborhood in Amsterdam East, to everyone in the neighborhood.

On Friday July 4 musicians from the Netherlands Philharmonic will give two special Dome Concerts. The first concert will focus on the strings, while the second will feature the wind instruments. Visitors can purchase a ticket for a single concert or a pass for both concerts.

On Saturday afternoon July 5 we will open the doors of the NedPhO Dome for a cup of tea or coffee and for anyone who is curious about what the building looks like inside. But we will start this festive afternoon with music!

The Wijktalentorkest Next will open at 1:30 p.m. with a concert full of surprises, from swinging jazz and pure classical music to songs by Burna Boy in a symphonic arrangement. The teenagers in this orchestra started out at the Leerorkest, but decided to continue making music after primary school. They will be accompanied by their teachers during this lively concert. It promises to be a great afternoon!

From 2:00 p.m., we will open the instrument garden to everyone (young and old!) who wants to know what it's like to play a violin, cello, or trumpet. In addition, orchestra staff will give tours of the Dome and take you to every corner of this special building, which used to be a church and was converted into the orchestra's home in 2012.

For children, there will be a workshop by Nieuw Vocaal Amsterdam starting at 2:30 p.m. Led by a singing teacher, they will learn what it's like to sing in a choir. Children are welcome at any time. They can sing along to all the songs, or just one, but of course they are also welcome to just watch. For the little ones, there will be fun musical games.

On Saturday evening July 5 there will be a free concert in the NedPhO Dome for anyone who has never seen an orchestra live. Visitors will first be given a taster session with all the instrument groups (violins, wind instruments, etc.), followed by the orchestra performing Beethoven's Seventh Symphony . The presenter (name to be announced!) will take the audience on a journey through the world of the orchestra.

On Sunday July 6 we will open the doors of our NedPhO dome to enthusiastic musicians who have always wanted to play in the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra. On this day, we will create a so-called scratch orchestra of over 100 musicians who will rehearse Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5 and perform it at a concert. Our assistant conductor Alejandro Cantalapiedra will be in charge of the music on this day.
