Sibelius’ Violin Concerto & Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition
Clara-Jumi Kang with Sibelius' Violin Concerto
At the age of six, German-Korean violinist Clara-Jumi Kang was already performing on the big concert stage, and at the age of nine she made her first successful album. Last year, this finalist of the prestigious Tchaikovsky Competition made her debut with the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra. Now she is back with Sibelius's Violin Concerto , one of the most popular violin concertos of the twentieth century.
Aziz Shokhakimov conducts Mussorgsky
Under the baton of Uzbek maestro Aziz Shokhakimov, the orchestra explores the colourful world of Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition . Sparkling sounds that take you from scene to scene as if through a living museum. The programme opens with Sinfonia (for Orbiting Spheres) by American composer Missy Mazzoli, music inspired by the galaxy.
This programme can be heard on 19 and 21 September in the Concertgebouw.
