Atmospheric Christmas concert by the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra
The Traditional Christmas Concert
Christmas and music are inseparably linked. At the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra’s annual Christmas concert, different musical worlds come together, from the refined Baroque of Handel and Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach to Mozart’s inventiveness and vitality. With festive orchestral music and the voices of the National Mixed Youth Choir, it promises to be an evening to enjoy together.
The concert is led by Kristian Bezuidenhout, making his debut with the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra. An internationally acclaimed fortepianist and harpsichordist, he specialises in Baroque and Classical music and has also made a name for himself as a conductor. In this programme, he leads the orchestra from the harpsichord and performs on the fortepiano in two works by Mozart.
Handel, Mozart and C.P.E. Bach
Handel’s Water Music is a festive work originally composed for a royal boat trip on the River Thames. The programme also features highlights from three of his English oratorios: Alexander’s Feast , Solomon and the celebrated Messiah .
The programme includes a symphony by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, one of Johann Sebastian Bach’s most successful sons. The work is full of musical contrasts. Mozart is represented by a small musical bouquet, including the
Fantasy in D minor

Symphony
and
Fifth Piano Concerto
.
